Mr F H Grant BEM Region President
The camping experience
started for Barbara and I in 1964. We were tent campers and we camped
with Birmingham DA .After a while we were asked to help out with the DA
entertainment programmes, then after a short time I became Social
Secretary.
I became BDA Chairman in 1967
and stayed as their Chairman for 5 years, during this time I became rep
to the Region.
I was elected as a regional
councillor and became Regional PRO, this was the start of a long and
progressive Regional and National voluntary career.
During my time as a Regional
councillor I became Regional Vice Chairman, Regional Chairman ,Immediate Past Chairman, Regional Vice President
to my present position of President of the region.
It has been my privilege as a
Regional councillor to open and attend many exhibitions and camping &
caravanning events throughout the Region this includes being on the
first Club stand at the NEC Birmingham 25 years ago
Whilst serving the Region I decided that I would like to branch out and
become a member of the Clubs National Council
I served on the National Council from 1975 for 27 years till my
retirement 2 years ago and was presented with the Certificate of Honour
for my National Council work. I am currently a Vice President of the
Club
I have held many positions and chaired many committees whilst being on
National Council but I am extremely proud to say I became Chairman of
The Camping and Caravanning Club from 1987 ~ 1989
During my time as Club Chairman I was invited to attend the Queens
garden party and later on as a national councillor I was pleased to be
invited to Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
patronage of The Duke of Edinburgh.
I did manage to find time to pursue my working career as a police
officer and was awarded the:-
Queens Jubilee Medal for services to the police force
British Empire Medal for contributions to police training
I have given a good insight to my very enjoyable time within the Club
but none of this would have been possible if it had not been for the
help, support and love I have received from my wife Barbara.
We would both like to say a big thank you to all our friends we have
made and assure you all of our continuing camping and friendship

Mr R Fell Vice President
Jeannette and I joined the
Camping and Caravanning Club in 1968 and camped with Coventry DA. I soon
became involved with the DA and helped to organising DA events. I
then progressed from Raffle officer to DA Chairman and rep to the
Regional Council in quite a short time.
I was elected to Regional
Council in 1975 and have since held the post of Regional Secretary, Vice
Chairman, Regional Chairman and Immediate Past Chairman. This led me to get involved
as Regional representative to the National Council for a period of 16
years.
In February 2003 I was proud
to be presented with the Clubs Certificate of Honour which was presented
to me by the club Chairman for my voluntary work within the Camping and
Caravanning Club
At this present time I hold
the position of Vice President of the Region. In this position
I feel that my experience of committee procedure can be used to the good
of the Region and further the regions position within the Camping and
Caravanning Club

Mrs J Massam BEM
Vice President
Hello My name is Judy Massam.
Along with my husband Don I joined the Club in 1980 and started camping
with Birmingham DA.
After working with BDA
committee I was elected as Vice Chairperson in 1988 and became BDA
Chairperson in 1990 and presided over the last Birmingham DA Regional
meet.
I became rep to the Region in 1990 and was subsequently elected onto the
Regional Committee. After serving on the Regional committee for a number
of years in 1994 I was elected as Regional Secretary, I have just
resigned from that position at the last AGM (2004) but continued to work
on the Regional Council as a councillor.
At this present time I hold
the position of Vice President of the Region.
I was the Meet Secretary and
assistant to the Treasurer at the 1999 NFOL at Stanford Hall
I was proud to be presented
with the Clubs Certificate of honour at the Regional Dinner Dance in
1993
In 1993 I was also presented
with the British Empire Medal for my voluntary services, this
presentation was made by the Lord Lieutenant of the County
During our time spent in the
Camping and Caravanning Club we made made many friends and experienced
many happy time. Unfortunately owing to the recent death of my husband
Don it will not be possible for me to camp as much as I would like, but
I will be keeping in touch with all the friends we have made throughout
our years as Club members.

In 1977 we were asked by the
DA to get involved with Coventry DA youth and became youth leaders. We
stayed involved with the youth for 11 years and during this time I
became RYLO on the Regional Council and the Clubs National Youth

I was elected to Regional
Council in 1979 and became Advisory Officer to the National
Council in 1986. Whilst on Regional Council I progressed from RYLO to
Regional Vice Chairman to Regional Chairman to my currant position as
the Region's Immediate Past Chairman
Whilst being a Club member
and serving the Region I have worked on the Club stand the National
Camping and Caravanning show for 25 years, 12 of these as Stand Manager
at the NEC Birmingham. I was Chairman for NFOL 1999 at Stanford Hall
.In my 9 years on National
Council I held the positions of Sites Management Committee Vice Chairman
and Chairman.
After long and careful
consideration I have decided to retired as the Regional rep
to National Council (May 2006)
I have been privileged to
represent the Club at the 1989 Queens Garden Party,2002 Buckingham
Palace celebrating the 50th Anniversary of our patron and to meet Edward
and Sophie with presentations of camping equipment for the Duke of

In 2000 I was chosen as the
Club Chairman's choice for the Certificate of Honour .
During our time spent working
within the Club we have made many friends and acquaintances from
literally all over the UK. We still see and camp with our friends but
what gives both Maureen and myself great pleasure is to see the youth we
looked after and encouraged who are now adults encouraging their own
youngsters in the Youth sections.

Mr L S Brown Regional Chairman
Hi, I’m Larry, Brown, my wife Jean and I started tent camping with a
young family in the Seventies, and in 1976 I joined the Club to take
advantage of their excellent sites. In 1979 a friend of mine told me
about D.A. camping at week ends and suggested we give it a try, we did
so and joined Northants D.A. and our long and happy relationship with
D.A. Camping began.
In 1982 I was opted onto Northants committee as Youth Leader, a
position I held until 1987 when I was elected Chairman of the D.A. I
continued in this capacity until 1989. Since this date I have remained
on Northants Committee mainly in the role as Public Relations Officer
and more recently taking on the role of Countryside Care Officer.
In 1983 I had the pleasure of meeting Roger Bishop at a Youth Rally and
he got me interested in the Region, so the following year I joined the
Regional Committee as Northants Regional Representative. By 1990 I was
elected to the Regional Council and in the same year became Regional
Public Relations Officer a position I continued in until 1995. This was
the year that I was elected as the Regions Vice Chairman a position I
have held until May 2006,At the May Regional Council meting I had the
privilege to be elected Regional Chairman of the Central Counties Region
In 1992 I was elected as the Deputy National Council Representative for
the Region and still hold this position.
One of the jobs I enjoy is helping organized Regional Meets, and I have
been involved with Northants organization of meets in 1987, 1996 and the
one planned for 2006 all in the capacity of Surveyor/Chief Camp Steward.
I have also played the same role for the meets organized by the Region
in 2004 and 2005.
With regards to National Feast of Lanterns my first experience was as an
Area Steward at the Regions event at Lincoln in 1987. I also had the
pleasure of being Chief Camp Steward at the fantastic event the Region
organized at Stanford Hall in 1999.
One of my proudest moments
within the Club was in September 2000 When I witness my wife Jean being
presented with The Clubs Certificate of Honour for the work she had done
for various charities on behalf of Northants. D.A.
Jean and I have spent 30 years camping with the Club. During this time
we have spent many happy times with our youth, made many friends in many
parts of the Country and visited some wonderful sites and area’s.
Being a member of the Friendly Club is certainly something that I would
recommend to all campers, whether they are Tenters, Caravanners or
Mobile Home Owners.

Mr N A Hemsley Regional Vice Chairman
Hello, my
name is Norman Hemsley. My wife, Linda, and I have been members of the
Camping and Caravanning Club for 27 years.
We started
camping with our two young children and very quickly made lots of
friends. We found the best way to get to know people and get the most
out of the club was to join in and help with different events. I started
by assisting the sports officer and stewarding at Goose Fair, but it
wasn’t long before I was elected onto the committee and in 1984 I became
the equipment officer for Notts DA. After several years I was elected as
Vice Chairman and then became Chairman for three years. Although I stood
down for a while I was still active in Notts DA and was elected to
committee again , holding the post of equipment officer for one year
and then again more recently became Vice Chairman in 2004, the post I
still hold. I have also been the Countryside Care officer for Notts DA
for around 10 years. I have very much enjoyed both Regional and National
meets and in particular taking part in the Mardi Gras and building
various floats for the processions, these have included Virgin Atlantic
Challenger, the Space Shuttle and the Boot for the ‘Old woman in the
Shoe’
I
have been on the Regional council for around eleven years. My first post
was as fixture List officer responsible for collating site information
from all the DAs and sections within the Region and ensuring the Central
Counties fixture List was printed and distributed. In 2001 I became the
Sites officer, and I was responsible for liaising with the land owners
and the Club to arrange holiday meets run on behalf of Central Counties,
and also to advise DAs within the Region on sites if necessary. I
held this post until May 2006 When I was elected Regional Vice Chairman.
Along with
my wife we have stewarded several of the holiday meets for the Region
and this has given us the opportunity to meet and make new friends.
I am also assistant countryside care officer for
the Region and am actively involved in various projects around the
Region working with the National Countryside Care Officer, Tony Powell.
During
my Time on the Region I have been involved with the running of several
Regional meets, acting as equipment officer and being responsible for
decorations of the site and stage. I was also proud to be the equipment
officer for the 1999 NFOL at Stanford Hall.
Club
membership has given both us and our family some wonderful times, and we
have great memories of holidays and week-ends spent caravanning. We look
forward to many more happy times in the future

Dave Sewell Regional PRO
Hello I'm Dave Sewell and along
with my wife Pam are members of Coventry DA. At the May 2006 council
meeting I was co opted on to the regional council and asked to be the
Regions PRO this is very new to me but it is a job I look forward to
doing.
What does a RPRO do, well
this varies throughout the club but I usually report on regional
activities like the NEC camping & caravanning show, the young achiever
competitions, whereby the achiever goes onto represent the region at the
club's national rally, I may be asked to get promotional equipment from
HQ for a small exhibition being organised by one of the regions
DA's or I may even be comparing a Regional rally from an outside stage
or inside a marquee, so as you can see it is varied and interesting work
The main job of any of the
clubs voluntary PRO's is to promote the Camping and Caravanning Club to
existing members and non members and I, like most PRO's, will also
promote the benefits of "DA" weekend camping & caravanning for the whole
family.
The Camping and Caravanning
Club is the Friendly Club
Why not give us a try?

Phil Henson Regional Representative to the
National Council
Hello my name is Phil Henson
and along with my wife Cath have been members of the Camping and
Caravanning Club since 1988. Over the years both of us have held various
post within our DA and I am held the post of DA President for three
years. We are still
regular DA campers and can be seen out on rallies most weekends.
I have been an elected
Regional Councillor for around 11 years now and have held the post of
Regional PRO for the same time. At the May 2006 Regional council meeting
I stood down from this post as I felt I needed a new challenge. I was
elected the Regional Rep for the National council, this is certainly a
new challenge and as always I hope to present the views of National
Council to our Region to the best of my ability.
