Central Counties Regional Meet 2007 at Ashdene Farm,
Drayton
Bassett on Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th June.
Hosted by North Warwick’s D.A.
Congratulations to N.W.D.A. for a superb Regional Meet. With
the weather keeping rain free and with 381 units, 97 of which were
unbooked, we were all set for an excellent week-end.
It all
kicked off on Thursday night with the month of June and a Day at the
Races but instead of horses it was dogs. It all started with Duncan
Ginns being made up as a hare and being chased round by the youth
with furry dogs. Whether you had a flutter or not, whether you won
or not, a very good night was had by all.
Friday saw
the usual things going on in the Marquee, Tom bola, Raffle, Kids
Corner, Regalia and Charity Book Stall. Friday night saw us back in
the Marquee for a romantic evening as it was February and we
celebrated with a Valentine Disco. There was a good friendly
atmosphere and the perfect night for catching up with old friends
and making new ones.
Saturday
arrived and it was time for the Raising of the Pennons and it was
good to see all the D.A. pennons go up. There was children’s
entertainment and Trade to visit. The Mardi Gras was fantastic with
the weather being glorious and a steel band called the Pan Maestro
playing, made for a wonderful Carnival atmosphere. All the D.As.
Participated and it made for a colorful and noisy Mardi Gras. The
trophies for this went to Northant’s for the Douglas Thornton to
Coventry for the Don Massarn and Steve Warsop from Trent Valley for
the Henry, McKnight & Wilcox, well done to everybody.
Saturday
night was December and we all enjoyed a Christmas Party in the
Marquee with the N.W. DAs. disco followed by great entertainment
with the Ivy League. An excellent night was enjoyed by everyone.
Sunday
arrived with a Service of Celebration followed by the Horace
Ringrose Sports Trophy which after a hard fought battle with all
D.As. entering into the spirit of it the winners were North
Warwick’s. The volleyball was hard fought in the finals by North
Warwick’s and Nott’s D.As. With the runners-up being Nott’s and the
Stan & Edna Williams Cup going to North Warwick’s.
After such
an excellent week-end we all had to go home but hopefully with some
great memories. Once again a big thank-you to Chairman Steve Kenning
and his very enthusiastic Committee and all of North Warwick’s D.A.
for making this a Regional Meet we shall all remember.

Goose Fair
The 42nd
goose Fair was again a resounding success with over 1300 units
attending.
The work
actually starts the week before, when Notts members and helpers from
other
DA’s start on the Saturday prior to the meet.
It is like
a well oiled machine, everyone knows what job they have to do and
get on with it,
whether it be marking pitches, electrical work, dressing up the
admin marquee or carpentry
work, what ever someone was there to do it, and by Sunday Night the
majority of the work
had been done. There was just the outside stage and various drapes
to sew up for the Marquee.
The site
opened this year on Thursday for the first time, and by the amount
of members that
arrived it was a great success. Thursday night Cath and Phil Henson
put on an excellent
50’s – 60’s – 70’s night where everyone could take part. Friday
arrived and units kept coming
all day until dark. The Friday entertainment in the Main marquee was
a Ventriloquist, a Magician
and a duo singing 60’s music, all very good. The Maid Marian Inn
proved very popular, it was packed
Saturday saw the now familiar site of people queuing for tickets for
the two shows in the
Main Marquee that night, which featured The Grumbleweeds. While all
this was going on the
children where being entertained in the Main marquee by a children’s
entertainer, with the
Camping Club Band entertaining at lunch time.
The Official
opening took place at 2 o’clock with the Deputy lord Mayor of
Nottingham opening
the 42nd Goose Fair Meet. A Comedy Act in the Main Arena
followed this. Meanwhile busses
were ferrying people to the famous Nottingham Goose Fair
Saturday Night there were two houses for the Grumbleweeds and what a
fantastic act they
were, everyone said how good they were. The night was finished off
with a concert from the Club
band playing songs from the shows.
Sunday the
Church Service was well attended, conducted by the Salvation Army
after which there
was Notts DA Medieval Market with something for everyone. And so to
the Closing Ceremony which
was closed by our own Regional Chairman Larry Brown.
I am sure
that all who attended the 42nd Goose Fair Meet had a very
enjoyable time and our thanks
go to Notts DA for a splendid weekend.
Sunday 20th August 2006
N F O L 2011
Members of the Executive Committee visited Lincoln Show Ground on
Saturday 15th July. We chose this weekend because there
was an event being held that included camping and there were some
2500 units attending, they were only using the main area and it was
considered we could accommodate 3500 units..
It was
decided to have a meeting on the morning of the next Council Meeting
to sort out an Organising Committee. Any one who wishes to be
involved in the organising of the 2011 NFOL will be invited to
attend and a letter is to be sent to all DA Secretaries asking then
to recruit volunteers from their D A’s. Please use website contact
form for enquiries

some of you there.
This meet
hosted by Northants DA. was well supported with 268 units in
attendance. On Thursday it was arrive and chill out.
Friday night
a get together in the marquee, there was a bar for a welcoming
drink, raffle, playing of Black Jack and various other games with
live entertainment in the evening.
Saturday was the raising of the Pennons in the Arena unfortunately
there were only five DA’s that took part in this. I urge all the
DA’s in the Region to be proud of their pennons and in future fly
them with honor at the Regional meet.
Afterwards the Volleyball
competition started with great expectations
The Opening Ceremony was at 11.OOam followed by Children’s
entertainment.
The Mardi Gras then took place in and around the Arena. There were
some really good costumes to see the winners of the Douglas Thornton
Trophy were Northant’s DA. (Large group) the winners of the Don
Massan Trophy were South Lincs DA. (Small group) and the McNight,
Henry, Wilcox Trophy was won by Martine and Eloise Elliot of
Leicester DA. (Individual)
Even a large
screen TV to watch the England match was provided in the Marquee.
Evening entertainment was jigging the night away with a live
performing band.
Sunday morning Camping Service in the Main Marquee. The family
sports then took place, of which there were some strong contenders,
the winning team being Trent Valley. This was followed by the Final
of the Volleyball Competition the winners being North Warwicks DA.
The Closing Ceremony commenced at 1.OOpm followed by the very well
supported raffle.
Next years regional Meet will be held at Drayton Basset and will be
hosted by North Warwicks DA. I ask all D A’s to give their full support.
Sunday 14th May 2006
Unfortunately the young
achiever competitions have been cancelled at both Regional and
National level. The reason for the cancellation is a lack of
sponsorship prizes. Hopefully the young achiever will be re
introduced at a later date.

.The weather was kind to us all on the working party and during the

put on a brilliant spectacle of decoration and colour. We were
assured at the closing ceremony that plans were already in place for

Monday 19th September 2005
The Regions council
met at Kimcote in Leicestershire for their 234th meeting
The Regional chairman
Mr Roger Bishop opened the meeting with the sad news of the death of
Arthur Raybold ,a minute's silence was held by the Council
Many discussions and
debates took place a good meeting was held.
Later that evening we
all met up for a barbeque and social a good time was had by all.
Monday 20th June 2005
We have just completed
the Regional meet at Stanford Hall in Leicestershire and what a
week-end it was. To start from the beginning we have to go back to
the week previous.
This was the start of
the working week and around 40 units with volunteers from all walks
of life attended. Each person using their hidden talents & skills on
the many tasks to be completed, for example on Thursday evening a
group of us erected a 50x30 marquee. in readiness for our working
party evening get together's and where a base could be set up to
work from in the daytime, during the weekend and the following week
300 individual pitches, an arena and space for a further marquee
(80x80) were marked out, a stage and bar were made and constructed
inside the main marquee, a 40 foot trailer was delivered to be used
as an outside stage and many more items made and constructed ready
for the the camping meet.
All this looked great
but very bare so out came the decorating team with there rolls of
material all with a pre determined colour scheme. The theme was
Countries of the world and what the decorating team did to the
stage, bar and outside stage was unbelievable it had to be seen to
be believed. It looked fantastic.
So to the rally around
250 units turned up starting on Thursday and arriving through to
Friday evening.
Members gathered in
the marquee to be entertained by a quiz and a sing-along with music
from the UK and Ireland on Thursday evening,
There was a brilliant
disco from Notts DA on Friday evening
A children's
entertainer on Saturday lunch time.
The mardi gras was
awash with colour, and innovation, with life size rockets from the
USA, a Barrier Reef and Aboriginal people from Australia, Windmills
from Holland with many others from Spain, Italy, China, Germany and
much more. This was a parade to be remembered for a long time.
A superb sway to the
left, right stand up sit down Ommpha band Organised by North
Warwickshire DA finished off a great Saturday
What with junior
sports, a Sunday inter DA sports competition, to a thrilling,
and very well organised knock out volleyball competition which had
heats running over the weekend
All good things must
come to and end so after the closing ceremony all the new builds and
construction has to be dismantled and moved into storage this is
where the equipments team came into there own. After about 6 hours
the site had been cleared and apart from the main marquee the site
was left on Monday morning spotless, not even a scrap of paper could
be found.
Yes all of the above
completed in 30 degrees C, it was to put it mildly very hot indeed
Those who attended
the rally enjoyed themselves immensely.
Those who could not
make the rally please don't worry as Central Counties Regional Meet
is being run in June 2006 by Northamptonshire DA at Rutland Water
and the theme is Cartoons further details to follow
It would be virtually
impossible to thank all who contributed but the Regional Chairman Mr
Roger Bishop would like to express his thanks to every one who made
this meet possible in particular to the members who attended the
meet over the weekend for without you the Regional Meet would not be
possible.
Sunday 15th May 2005
At the Regional
council meeting a nomination was received from Birmingham DA to
