Hosted by Northants DA on June 10th – 12th 2016
The AGM was held at Normanton on Soar Village Hall on Saturday 14th May 2016.
A new Committee was duly elected. To see names and positions held please go to our page About the Club
After the sad loss of our past President Mr Roger Bishop it was with pride that Mr Larry Brown accepted the position of President of the Central Counties.
Larry accepted his chain of office from Vice President Richard Fell, saying he was very proud to follow in the ‘big’ footsteps of his friend Roger.
During the meeting two awards were received. The first for the Les Goodwin Trophy 2016 was awarded to CCY member, Laura Mycroft from South Lincs DA.
The second award was received by David Wilkinson for 35 years of service to the Countryside Care team.
David was also made an honorary member of the Central Counties Region.
The Regional Youth Leaders expressed their thanks to the Regional CCY Testers with a bouquet of flowers to the ladies – June Wilkinson and Sue Barlow
It is with great sadness we have to report the passing of Roger Bishop.
Roger passed away on 30th of March whilst visiting his daughter in Spain.
Roger was well loved and respected by many. An Ambassador for many years for the Camping and Caravanning Club and the Central Counties Region, serving for many years with the National Council. He was the Regions Youth Liaison Officer and will be remembered by us all for his many years as Central Counties Chairman.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Our sincere condolences go to Maureen and family.
Trevor Cooke (Chairman)
THE FUTURE OF LEICESTERSHIRE DA
Leicestershire DA held an EO AGM on Saturday 9th July 2016 and are pleased to announce that they have formed a Committee who are very willing to help the DA go forward with positive steps.
For the last 3 months the DA did not have a Committee and the Regional Chairman (Mr Trevor Cooke) and Regional Treasurer (Mrs Anne Smith) have been keeping the DA paperwork ticking over. Both are very willing to continue to help the new Committee whenever needed.
Leicestershire DA are very keen to organise some Meets for the remaining Summer months. Please support these Meets (which will be advertised soon)
The National Feast of Lanterns, otherwise known as NFOL,is the Club’s national rally which takes place every year and is organised by members, for members.
It is a unique event where members can meet, and make, friends who share their passion for camping, whilst enjoying great entertainment and the beautiful British countryside. It’s a fabulous, long standing Club tradition and the largest rally of its kind for all forms of camping.
The first NFOL was held in 1921 and it still continues to uphold its traditions. In the early years of the festival, members would celebrate the end of the camping year with old lanterns to light their meet.
Lighting up is still a key tradition however members now decorate their units with everything from tea lights to generator powered fairy lights creating beautiful street scenes. The theme for this year is “World of Movies”. NFOL also holds an annual themed Mardi Gras parade, plus there is a Club pennon parade where Regions, Sections and DA’s join together to parade their colours .
In 2016 the NFOL will be hosted by Cambrian and Wyvern Region and will be held at Malvern Showground over the August Bank Holiday weekend. There is plenty of entertainment including live music, circus acts, children’s fun fair rides, go karting, stunt displays, dog show and much more. There really is something for everyone.
Whilst at the NFOL you might like to explore the Malvern Hills. You can enjoy over 3000 acres of open countryside or ramble through the wooded slopes.
If you would like to book to camp with other Members from the Central Counties Region, please contact Duncan Ginns – 07713 420418 who is co ordinating a block booking. The closing date for the block booking is 30th April 2016.
At the Regions AGM in May 2015 Phil Henson and Richard Fell stood down from their appointments of Region Chairman and Region President after their regulatory 3 years in office.

I am also pleased to announce that Gordon Barlow (Sites officer) was elected as Region Vice Chairman
This Region wishes both Trevor and Gordon well and every success in their new appointments
